There are MANY great things about having a cousin in LA. This week, the BEST thing was that when Bex woke up looking like a cyclops, Marley had an eye doctor for her to visit. That’s the good news. The bad news was that she had to visit the doctor several times, cause what started as a simple stye in the eye turned into a full-blown infection. Yuch!
Meanwhile, as the guard changed and Grammie and Poppy returned to Atlanta, the eye wasn’t improving. Bex was scheduled to go into the doctor on Friday morning to have the eye drained. YUCK again. There was a stressful few hours there when Elaine was stuck at a training in Orlando, and David actually pulled Josh and Syd out of school early on Friday to get out to Cali to be with Bex and her poor eye 😦 The good news? Bex woke up Fri morning with the swelling down and the drainage was averted. The bad news is that the TKs to the Rescue were already en route by the time she woke up. Ok, it wasn’t all bad news. The family was (almost) reunited, the kids were happy, and by evening time David and kids were all able to go see the opening night of “Mirror, Mirror.” A great way to start Spring Break.
Saturday David, Syd and Josh went to Santa Monica (killer GF Pizza!), and Bex started catching up on missing school work. Elaine arrived that night and the family was reunited for the first time since late January!

Cold brrrr day here in LA…but we had a good breakfast and Bex headed out to class…
Bex spent the day with her friend, the aspiring young actress Stella, whose guardian was unavailable today. Bex is one of a surprisingly large community of kids living out here without parents in a wide variety of creative arrangements, trying to get work. Bex hung with Stella and had a session with Coach Eric at 1pm…then they went to class 5-9pm
Brooke & I headed out to FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) to see the 20th Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibit! Saw The Staples Center where the Grammy’s were held Sunday night, and used great self restraint on the shopping in Santa Monica. Enjoying life’s journey.
Obama was in LA today. Apparently, when he comes here the President lands in a special lot near a dog park, where they take down the tents and clear out the area for a few days before his landing. Who knew?

This afternoon we got a notice that Bex has an audition at 12:15 tomorrow. That’s the good news. The bad news is that we were still in Atlanta when that script came, and it sorta fell off our radar screen (what with getting out of town and no scheduled audition date).
When the agent asked Bex if she was ready, and he got a lukewarm response (understandably), and he was not thrilled (also not surprising). So lesson learned: NOW we know that, when a script comes in, Bex needs to have the lines learned within 48 hours, even if she doesn’t coach on it until the audition is scheduled. Moving forward, in terms of getting systems into place and establishing clear lines of communication, it was a good lesson, albeit a frustrating one. It’s a part Bex really loves, too. She’d get to shoot a gun in it, which makes her happy!
The agent tells us to come to him at 9:30 tomorrow morning to prepare for the audition – great, we have to get to Santa Monica at 9:30 – what time do we need to leave for that!? At least Bex has tonight to learn the lines – of course, she’s also got class at 5:00!
